Opportunities and obstacles for the Dutch Cybersecurity Sector in Southern Germany

Germany is still one of the most important industrial nations in the world: about ten percent of all European companies in the manufacturing sector comes from Germany. This makes Germany the largest economy within the EU and the fourth largest in the world.

Numerous leading international companies such as Daimler, Siemens, BMW and Lufthansa are based in southern Germany, from where they shape a large part of the overall economy. In addition to large companies, however, small and medium-sized enterprises should not be ignored, as only eleven percent of the almost 3.5 million companies in Germany employ more than ten people. With this initial situation, it is particularly interesting to gain a clear insight into the opportunities for Dutch cybersecurity parties in southern Germany (Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg).

Therefore, the Consulate General in Munich, together with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency commissioned this market study that aligns with the relevant economic work plan and the strategic internationalization agenda for ICT in Germany. This market study identifies the needs of Dutch cybersecurity parties in southern Germany and provides insight into possibilities for knowledge-intensive cooperation, market opportunities, limitations and challenges, and suggestions as to how Dutch cybersecurity SMEs can best be promoted in southern Germany.
